This week we are continuing with our Felty Bee features where we highlight a different maker or business. In the spotlight today is Hannah, the other half of Felty Bee Crafts and the maker behind Felt things.
Describe your business in less than 10 words…
Needle felted commissions and felting kits to make you smile.
How did you start?
Needle felting started as a hobby but soon I had developed an addiction for wool and what could be made with it. Felt things started when I was nudged into doing a Christmas Market to try my hand at selling my creations. It's been a whirlwind since then, a very happy one.
What are your inspirations?
My customers! They come up with the most wonderful ideas for orders and often let me roll with it for the design. I draw inspiration from real animals and often my children's books and toys but mostly ideas form in my head and I just need to get felting!
What’s your favourite make and why?
I absolutely love making my gnomes. Each one is unique. So far I've made Spring, Summer, Halloween and Christmas gnomes. These are definitely one of my most popular makes and at Christmas time every other order is a gnome!
Who would be your dream 3 people to meet for tea and cake?
First up would be Kirsty Allsop as I know she would never get bored of me wittering on about needle felting and crafting in general. Plus, I would love some interior design ideas! I would also like to invite Jack Whitehall. I find him hilarious and I think the conversation would flow between the belly laughs. The last of my 3 would be Monica Galetti. She is an inspirational, passionate and motivated woman who I would love to chat with. She'd also ensure our cake was up to par!
Which new craft or hobby would you love to try?
There's so many that look so fun! I would love to try my hand (or arm) at arm knitting and make a huge squashy blanket. I've also always wanted to try weaving. These may need to be added to my resolutions for 2022!
What two things, aside from food and water would you want on a deserted island?
Definitely my felting supplies, all I need is my mat, needles and copious amounts of wool! Does that count as 2 if the island has sheep I can get some wool from?? When I'm felting I may as well be on a deserted island, I get lost in my happy place and time disappears!
Where can we find you?
I'm on Instagram (@felt.things) and Facebook (@HFfeltthings). To order simply send me a message, I would love to hear from you.
Watch this space for more interviews with local crafters and businesses, it’s the perfect way to find out about what amazing things are on your doorstep. If you have been inspired to have a go at crafting check out our COURSES tab to book your place on one of our workshops in November and December.
Goodbye for now and we will be back next week x
